Killam Lecture
Speaker: Robert M. Shapley, Ph.D.
Professor, New York University
Title: Dynamics of Visual Responses and Oscillations in Primary Visual
Cortex
Time: 4:00 pm
Date: December 6, 2005
Place: de Grandpre Communications Centre

Dear Colleagues,
Please join us for the Killam seminar at 4:00 on Tuesday, 6th. Bob
Shapley studies the neurophysiology of vision and how it relates to
visual perception. His early work focused on the mechanisms by which
individual retinal ganglion cells signal information about local
contrast. In recent years he has done some extremely important work on
the mechanisms of orientation selectivity in the visual cortex. In
parallel, Bob has been working on mathematical models that describe how
circuits of neurons contribute to the dynamic aspects of neuronal
responses and visual perception. Bob is a really outstanding speaker,
and his seminar should be of great interest to the entire neuroscience
community.
