> Autism Spectrum Condition (ASD) is a highly heterogeneous neurodevelopmental condition that is associated by atypical brain structure and brain development. One of the few studies that has specifically been designed with the purpose of disentangling the large heterogeneity associated with the condition is the EU-AIMS Longitudinal European Autism Project (LEAP; www.eu-aims.eu <http://www.eu-aims.eu/> and www.aims-2-trials.eu <http://www.aims-2-trials.eu/>), which provides genotypic and phenotypc assessments for >700 individuals, including males and females across development (6-30 years) within a wide range of intellectural abilities, and varying degress of symptom severity. This talk aims to provide an update on the various research activities within the consortium, and to highlight some initial research findings examining brain structure in this cohort.

management (RDM) webinar series, with the aim to educate researchers and
data professionals across Canada on data management best practices and
tools that are available to support them. These webinars will help
participants navigate the evolving RDM landscape, as funders, publishers,

Using a research data lifecycle approach, this webinar will provide
attendees with an overview of research data management (RDM) best
practices, including both guidance and resources to help them manage their

RDM principles (e.g., FAIR, CARE, OCAP), file management and version
control, file naming conventions, data storage and backup strategies, data
access and sharing, and data deposit. Specific support platforms that can
be leveraged to help with RDM needs will additionally be touched upon
including the Portage DMP Assistant, Dataverse, and Compute Canada?s Rapid
Access Service.

The webinar will be presented in English and recorded. Engagement during
the webinar in both official languages is welcomed. Previous webinar

A reminder that investigators and researchers are invited to participate in
beta testing of NeuroHub

powerful computational tools for data processing and streamlined systems

Hi all,

I?m writing to solicit your help in a discussion that I intend to have with Purchasing at McGill.  According to the email below, we are supposed to buy computer equipment from Le James.  I find this difficult to accept, because I (and others) have not had good service from Le James. For example:
I tried to order a MacBook from Le James.  It took 6-7 days to get a quote and they were going to take another 10 days to order it.  I ordered one on the web and had next day delivery to the Apple store on Ste-Catherine.
Last week I tried to order a common 1TB SSD drive, Le James could not get the model I wanted. NewEgg has 2-3 day delivery.
Peter ordered a keyboard and mouse from Le James recently and it took two weeks to arrive.
Simon tried to order 1 workstation and 1 regular desktop from Le James.  Despite detailed quotes with specific items supported within the BIC IT infrastructure, Le James insisted on buying another product that will result in difficulties with support
One colleague ordered a MacBook 3 months ago from Le James, and he was still waiting for it at the beginning of September.
Such lack of service Le James is unacceptable since Apple.ca, NewEgg.com and Amazon.ca and others all offer good (or often better prices), often with next day delivery, and much better service (including returns). Forcing profs to subsidize the lack lustre Le James using public funds is ridiculous..

If you?ve run into difficulties with Le James, can you please drop me a short email, and I?ll include you in the list (with or without your name, let me know) above when I communicate with Purchasing next week.

Hi Louis,

In my experience, the individuals working at Le James have been terrific but I agree 100% that the purchasing restrictions that they and we are supposed to follow are unacceptable. Like you, I have been forced to purchase items at higher cost and slower delivery than I could get on my own. In my opinion, the same problem extends beyond Le James and to the entire MMP enterprise, with faculty being forced to purchase items that are inferior or more expensive or both.

I agree and support your opinion.
I used to purchase computers directly from Dell?s representative, and I was always offered discounts and better service than what McGill?s computer store offered. A few months back, I was surprised to hear from Dell?s representative (who acknowledged that this was unfortunate) that I cannot do that anymore: everything needs to be purchased from McGill?s store.

I?m writing to solicit your help in a discussion that I intend to have with Purchasing at McGill.  According to the email below, we are supposed to buy computer equipment from Le James.  I find this difficult to accept, because I (and others) have not had good service from Le James. For example:

  *   I tried to order a MacBook from Le James.  It took 6-7 days to get a quote and they were going to take another 10 days to order it.  I ordered one on the web and had next day delivery to the Apple store on Ste-Catherine.
  *   Last week I tried to order a common 1TB SSD drive, Le James could not get the model I wanted. NewEgg has 2-3 day delivery.
  *   Peter ordered a keyboard and mouse from Le James recently and it took two weeks to arrive.
  *   Simon tried to order 1 workstation and 1 regular desktop from Le James.  Despite detailed quotes with specific items supported within the BIC IT infrastructure, Le James insisted on buying another product that will result in difficulties with support
  *   One colleague ordered a MacBook 3 months ago from Le James, and he was still waiting for it at the beginning of September.
Such lack of service Le James is unacceptable since Apple.ca<http://Apple.ca>, NewEgg.com and Amazon.ca and others all offer good (or often better prices), often with next day delivery, and much better service (including returns). Forcing profs to subsidize the lack lustre Le James using public funds is ridiculous..

If you?ve run into difficulties with Le James, can you please drop me a short email, and I?ll include you in the list (with or without your name, let me know) above when I communicate with Purchasing next week.

Hi Louis,

I took them on, and had a long protracted discussion with Kathy Zendahabad which lasted several months. I also reported the policy to NSERC asking if it was even legal to require us to use Le James. I asked to see the policy that the Senate came up with and apparently is now being used to require us to use Le James for hardware purchases. It turns out that that Senate policy does not actually pertain to ?research? grants!

The issue seems to be how to track purchases and how to use MMP, and it is a bit complex. The Faculty of Science agreed that I could use a personal credit card in the future and then file an expense report. For apple products for example there is no way to use MMP since the default supplier is Le James.

If you are in touch with Kathy I would be happy to be part of the conversation or at least be copied. I even took this up with NSERC arguing that forcing us to use tax payers money for reduced services simply seemed wrong. You?ll see that the price you get for apple products such as laptops, on their website with the apple discount is in fact 5 to 10 percent lower than what the bookstore charges you because they charge a service fee.

My story - I upgraded my laptop after 7 years and the new one was delivered in November last fall. At the time it arrived there was a new 16 in model available and apple was no longer selling the 15 in model. I took a while to react, since I was tied up with teaching, but I never opened the box. In early January I asked them to exchange it for the newer model and I agreed to pay the difference, but they did not agree (they have a very restrictive return policy - something like 10 days). When I took the unopened box to the apple store they said they would happily take it back and process an exchange. it turned out that there was no way to effect this since the purchaser was Le James, and in fact, the supplier as a third party who refused to comply. I tried to fight this for 6 months insisting that they agree to at least match the apple store?s service. A month ago I finally gave up and opened the laptop delivered in November. 

But I also got the Faculty of Science administration involved and they agreed that in future they would sign off on purchases made on credit cards on a case by case basis, even though purchasing frowns upon this.

If I were you I would track down the Senate IP policy document and check its wording and go from there.

Hi Louis,

Apple products through Le James always cost more, as there is one educational price from Apple (which you have direct access to if you order from apple.ca <http://apple.ca/>), on top of which Le James adds their own markup/service fee. They also have *much* slower delivery. The only advantage is being able to pay with a FOAPAL, and that sales tax rebates are applied up-front, instead of credited later.

Commodity items have been less of an issue for us (in terms of pricing), but the very slow delivery remains a problem.

Personally, I think they should reinstate more widespread use of PCards. That provided a simple mechanism to purchase needed items at a good price (e.g. a 1-day, 40%-off sale on UPSs) that could still be properly tracked when charges were reconciled to the appropriate FOAPAL, without the hassle and overhead of expense reports.

Hi Louis,

Apple products through Le James always cost more, as there is one educational price from Apple (which you have direct access to if you order from apple.ca<http://apple.ca/>), on top of which Le James adds their own markup/service fee. They also have *much* slower delivery. The only advantage is being able to pay with a FOAPAL, and that sales tax rebates are applied up-front, instead of credited later.

Commodity items have been less of an issue for us (in terms of pricing), but the very slow delivery remains a problem.

Personally, I think they should reinstate more widespread use of PCards. That provided a simple mechanism to purchase needed items quickly at a good price (e.g. a 1-day, 40%-off sale on UPSs) that could still be properly tracked when charges were reconciled to the appropriate FOAPAL, without the hassle and overhead of expense reports.

Such lack of service Le James is unacceptable since Apple.ca<http://apple.ca/>, NewEgg.com<http://newegg.com/> and Amazon.ca<http://amazon.ca/> and others all offer good (or often better prices), often with next day delivery, and much better service (including returns). Forcing profs to subsidize the lack lustre Le James using public funds is ridiculous..

Dear All,

I?m attaching the pertinent document below. If you read it you?ll see what I mean. There is part in there which refers to the need for all incoming equipment to be tracked and I believe purchasing is also using that as an argument for requiring us to use MMP. 

I have pointed out that these are separate issues. The challenge is that you cannot use a FOAPAL directly at the apple store. And if you use MMP you?ll see that the apple store is not listed as a supplier. You?ll end up using Le James and they will add a service fee, together with very restrictive 

See the text that I have highlighted in red.

I have our ADR in the Faculty of Science agreeing with us that this does not apply to research grants. The way around this is to the file an expense report which will go to travel desk for approval by your Faculty, circumventing purchasing, but they do not like this and you end up taking some risk.

uPrint fleet replacement ? Tuesday, September 29th

Xerox Canada will be replacing 14 printers within The Neuro September 29th. The new printers will have the same functionality as the current ones, but with much improved quality, performance and usability. Please note that the remaining printers in your buildings will be replaced in May 2021.



The uPrint devices to be replaced will be disconnected from the network. Once disconnected, you will not be able to release print jobs, copy or scan to email on your uPrint machine. You will still be able to send print jobs to the uPrint system and be able to retrieve them once the replacement process is completed. Please note that replacement uPrint devices will go back online, one by one, once the individual setups of the machine are completed. When the serial number sticker has been applied on the new machine, the installation is complete and the device is ready to be used. To facilitate the removal and the installation process, please assure devices are free of obstacles and accessible to the Xerox technicians and riggers.



Please note that sending print jobs to uPrint remains unchanged.
