Beginning before birth, research-backed interventions can make a difference. Who should attend: Anyone interested in maternal mental health and the link to children's long-term development - physical, cognitive and emotional: Perinatal mental health professionals, Researchers, Trainees, etc. Registration: $10 (for lunch) - click here to register See the detailed program at Ludmer Centre Event page. The Neuro will host The Brenda Milner Centennial Symposium on September 6 & 7, 2018 to celebrate her many accomplishments, reflect on all that has been learned in cognitive neuroscience, and look to the future. Dr. Milner has been blazing trails for nearly 70 years, and is one of the world?s most renowned scientists. As many of you know, in the 1950s she changed the course of brain science by identifying the specific brain region that is crucial to memory formation and by identifying multiple memory systems. Dr. Milner has continued to make major contributions to our knowledge of memory and language function. Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel attributes her with creating the field of cognitive neuroscience. Dr. Milner has had an extraordinary influence on neuroscience, and on the work of hundreds of scientists around the world many of whom she trained and mentored and are now leaders in their domain. She is the recipient of over 80 prestigious Awards and Honors. We have been very fortunate to have Dr. Milner pursue her sense of curiosity and dedication to neuroscience at The Neuro, and to call her our colleague. The committee has put together an impressive program. I encourage you to visit the website to register or submit an abstract: http://www.mcgill.ca/neuro/events/brenda-milner-centennial-symposium. In hopes of alleviating this, we will be extending 3T operations to allow booking of scan sessions that finish up to 9:30pm (as opposed to the current closing time of 6:30pm). The extended hours will start on Monday May 7, and be maintained so long as demand for the system warrants it. Note that, on days when staffing is reduced due to vacations etc, it may be necessary to revert to the current 6:30pm ending time. Unlike weekend scanning, there will be no overtime fee charged for these later slots. However, if the later end time results in morning slots being unused, we may revisit this arrangement. It may take a few days for BIC Administrators to update the 3T Booking Calendar Display to reflect the extended hours, but I am told it will be possible to adopt workarounds for booking in the meantime. You may thus start to make late bookings for May 7 or later, effective immediately. This initiative will extend available 3T hours from the current 10.5 hours/day (contiguous) to 13.5 hours/day. I would like to thank our outstanding MRI technologists for their constant efforts to provide the best possible service to the MRI research community, and hope that these additional hours will be well used.
