This talk will present a novel 4D graph segmentation approach for joint segmentation of longitudinal datasets in a globally optimal manner. Our 4D approach produces highly accurate surfaces in a temporally consistent manner by leveraging all of the available longitudinal data for a given subject. The 4D approach enforces temporal coherence of the segmented surfaces but avoids over-regularization in the temporal domain. This leads to accurate quantification of the anatomy, which is less noisy and more robust than existing 3D or semi-4D approaches. Our method will be illustrated in two applications: longitudinal choroid segmentation from retinal OCT images, and longitudinal cortical thickness analysis from MRI. The relatively flat geometry of the choroid allows for a variety of synthetic experiments. The more complex cortical surface reconstruction task illustrates how to apply this technique in more challenging applications. The results show that our joint 4D segmentation approach reduces measurement noise without bias. This leads to higher sensitivity and thus more statistical power in longitudinal studies, increasing the value of imaging studies for obtaining longitudinal biomarkers. Bio: Dr. Ipek Oguz is a Research Associate in the Department of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is a member of the Penn Image Computing and Science Laboratory (PICSL). She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research is in the field of medical image analysis and specifically in the development of novel methodology for quantitative medical image analysis, with applications to neuroimaging, including Huntington's disease and multiple sclerosis, as well as placenta imaging and ophthalmology. Her technical interests include graph-based segmentation methods and longitudinal studies. She has co-authored more than fifty peer-reviewed journal and conference publications. She is an executive in the Women in MICCAI Committee and a co-organizer of IPMI 2017. -- -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The segmentation is oriented towards the left and the right ventricle as well as the myocardium. The challenge is organized around a new dataset of 150 patients selected to cover 5 well-known pathologies. The data has been manually validated by two medical experts. Participants may submit their results to the diagnosis AND/OR thesegmentation challenges on our transaction website. For anyone who is interested, she will set up a one-hour meeting where a survey will be conducted. Please see further details below, and contact Dr. Anichini at giulia.anichini at ehess.fr to set up a meeting time. Thanks -- I am a post-doctoral student and I'm currently working at CIRST (Interuniversity Center for Science and Technology Research). I am an anthropologist and realized my thesis on brain mapping practices and on the way in which researchers produce their results (based on MRI data from experiments or databases). I would like to focus my post-doctoral research on the digital infrastructures by which data are stored, organized and processed to understand the material, economic and social context that shapes the study of the brain. I'm looking for researchers (of all levels) to participate in a sociological survey on the use of databases in neuroscience. Volunteers will be invited for an initial interview (of approximately one hour) which might be followed by further meetings according to availability. Interviews will address topics such as: issues related to database design; collaboration between researchers and curators; data-sharing practices and new standards for the circulation of knowledge. Scientists who are interested in participating are invited to contact me at this address: giulia.anichini at ehess.fr Thank you in advance for your collaboration Je suis post-doctorante et je travaille actuellement au CIRST (Centre interuniversitaire de recherche sur la science et la technologie). The system is shimmed and ready to image, with the techs expected to undergo training next week. Unfortunately, McGill Facilities has advised us that upgrades to the exterior quench pipes will continue through April and both the 1.5 and 3T systems must be ramped down for this to ensure safety of the workers. We will therefore have to delay the in-service date beyond the original projection of April 10, 2017. It is difficult to give a precise completion date, but current estimates from Facilities have the work finishing between May 8 and 12 (best and worst-case scenarios). Facilities worked very hard to have the quench pipe work carried out in parallel with the MRI downtime required for the upgrade, but this was ultimately not possible. I am sure that all MRI users will share my disappointment at the delay, and I appreciate the significant burden for researchers created by further downtime and the need to reschedule. As has been discussed earlier, the quench system must be updated to address critical safety concerns; deferring this work could lead to even larger MRI service disruptions later. Judy and members of the MR team will help with rescheduling of scans currently booked in April. I would encourage researchers to make arrangements with members of the MR team to visit the upgraded scanner during the extended downtime, to familiarize themselves with new coils and other hardware. We have been able to retain a 32-channel coil that is identical to the old one, but no longer have a 12-channel coil. There are also new head/neck coils with 20 and 64 channels. I will update when I get a better estimate of the new in-service date, and will also be presenting at April 10th?s Feindel lecture to discuss the Prisma upgrade. Thanks to all for your patience and support during this process, Rick --- Rick Hoge, Ph.D. Program Director for MRI McConnell Brain Imaging Centre, Montreal Neurological Institute Associate Professor, Dept. of Neurology & Neurosurgery Associate Member, Dept. of Biomedical Engineering McGill University rick.hoge at mcgill.ca 514-398-1929 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
