PhD position :

The Motor Learning and Brain Plasticity Laboratory in Montreal, under the
directorship of Dr. Julien Doyon, is currently accepting applications from
potential PhD students to start working in the lab in the Fall of 2017. The
student will work in a new, innovative research program investigating the
functional interaction between brain and spinal cord using functional and
structural neuroimaging (MRI) in healthy individuals and patients with
Parkinson’s disease. We are seeking highly dedicated and motivated students
with interests (and some prior experience) in human research, preferably in
the area of motor learning and/or memory.

The following requirements are a must:

*	Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in a discipline related to
neuroscience or in applied sciences - e.g., computer science, mathematics,
engineering - as long as they are willing to learn about the neurophysiology
of the brain and spinal cord.
*	Proficiency in MatLAB (specific questions assessing your MatLAB
expertise will be asked at the interview).
*	Good knowledge of signal processing and/or statistics applicable to
neuroimaging data sets.

The following requirements are an asset:

*	Experience with one of the main neuroimaging software (SPM, FSL,
etc.) in either functional or structural neuroimaging or both.
*	Background in neuroscience and advanced knowledge of the structure
and function of the brain and spinal cord.
*	Experience with neuroimaging data collection (spinal cord fMRI – a
bonus).
*	Prior research experience with human participants (interaction with
patients – a bonus).
*	Good scientific writing skills (in English).

We seek the following personal qualities:

*	Good communication skills (English oral and written proficiency – a
must; French proficiency – an asset).
*	Team player and dedication to the work at hand.
*	Ability to work independently, while under the guidance of senior
lab members.
*	Willingness to learn new imaging and data analysis techniques.

To be considered for this paid PhD studentships, you will need to send us a
detailed description of your research interests along with a CV highlighting
your current achievements and expertise. We will need the contact
information for two individuals who know you personally, have worked with
you and could provide references upon request.

All applications should be sent to Dr. Ovidiu Lungu (o.lungu at umontreal.ca)
before September 15th, 2017.
