Lecturers: Drs. Alex Thiel, Jean-Paul Soucy, Pedro Rosa-Neto, Paul Gravel, Alexey Kostikov. Credits: 3 Brief description: The course deals with in vivo imaging using radioactive isotopes and is primarily focused on positron emission tomography (PET). PET has found research and clinical application in oncology, neurology and cardiology and is an especially powerful modality for imaging of neuroreceptors, cerebral blood flow and abnormal protein deposits in the brain. The course covers most of the topics related to PET from isotope production and radiotracers syntheses to image acquisition and reconstruction. Examples of PET studies of various neurotransmission systems and misfolded protein accumulation as well as their implications in various neurodegenerative diseases and psychiatric conditions will be explained. Understanding how radiochemistry, physics and math intermingle with the molecular biology and medicine will result in a deeper insight into the PET radiotracer design and the methods necessary to properly acquire and interpret the data. Please contact Prof. Alexey Kositkov (alexey.kostikov at mcgill.ca) if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing you in class. Alexey P. We hope to see you there, kindly forward to people you think will be interested in the same. Simultaneous recordings of MEG, EEG and intracerebral EEG PERFORM?s ABC SEMINAR Series July 27th, 2016 [cid:image002.png at 01D1E1D6.7EB706B0] Abstract: Intracerebral EEG obtained in patients during presurgical evaluation of epilepsy give a formidable opportunity for investigating the relations between surface measures and recordings performed directly within the brain. So far, relationships between surface and depth has been mostly performed on separate recordings, which is suboptimal. Thus, we propose to record simultaneously EEG, MEG and intracerebral EEG. These signals allow 1) to quantify the sensitivity of surface recordings to events measured in depth 2) to validate the signal processing tools 3) to develop combined measures of cerebral networks at two different scales. In this talk, Dr B?nar will present technical solutions for performing such recordings, as well as first results on depth/surface relationships. Small Bio: Dr B?nar graduated from Ecole Sup?rieur d'Electricit? (Sup?lec) in 1994. He spent a year as an engineer at the Hospital Saint-Anne in Toulon (with Franck Vidal), and two years as a programmer at Stellate Systems (Montr?al). He did his PhD under the supervision of Jean Gotman at the Montreal neurological Institute. Followed by two postdocs in Marseille (fMRI Center, with Jean-Luc Anton) and in Sophia Antipolis (Maureen Clerc and Theodore Papadopoulo). He was appointed researcher INSERM ("charg? de recherche 1?re classe" ) in 2006. Since January 2012, he is the leader of the junior group "Dynamical brain Mapping" within the Institut de Neurosciences des Syst?mes (INS, UMR1106), a multidisciplinary research institute of INSERM and Aix-Marseille University. Since September 2014, he is the scientific head of the Marseille MEG platform. His research interest is signal processing applied to brain signals (fMRI, EEG, MEG), in order to characterize the spatio-temporal dynamics of networks in cognition and disease. Currently, his team is working on simultaneous recordings of surface (EEG, MEG) and depth (SEEG) signals.
