Please note that this request, which was sent to the BIC Mailing list, also contains this "Feindel Challenge" to everyone at the BIC: Just about four years ago now, during the -- at the time -- BIC Lecture, I was sitting in my regular seat, which was just to the left of Dr. Feindel's regular seat; after a chat with him, and just as the talk was starting, he pulled a brand new 20$ bill out of his pocket and slipped it to me out of sight. "What's this for?" I asked... to which he pointed at my silly little moustache and said: "Good job!" I challenge everyone at the BIC to support the silly little moustache and help make a difference, just like Dr. Feindel did. And please join us for the next Feindel Brain Imaging Lecture (see my next message). Movember 2016 is now over and it's time for us to make a difference. Men's health is a cause I am passionate about, but, in order to make a difference, I need your help. My commitment was to grow a moustache for the month of November and, in doing so, raise vital awareness and funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and male mental health. As you can see, I did: [cid:image001.png at 01D24B73.A779DF30] I am asking you to help support my personal journey by making a donation. The size of which isn't important, every little bit helps Movember to continue funding its world class programs, including work done here at McGill. To highlight the importance of what I am doing, take a look at these statistics: * Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canadian me. * Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in men aged 15-29 years. * 1 in 5 men in Canada will experience a mental health problem each year If you'd like to help change these statistics, please donate here: http://mobro.co/caramanos Please donate soon if you can ... even a small amount can help make a difference if lots of us get involved. So far this year, almost $55,000,000 has been raised world-wide, with the third largest amount coming from right here in Canada (http://ca.movember.com/leaderboards/) - just behind Australia and the USA. Since 2003, it's gone from 30 moustachioed men from Melbourne Australia to over five million Mo-Bros and Mo-Sistas from all over the world who have raised over 750 million US dollars. See here for a charming TED talk by one of the original Mo-Bros, moustache-farmer Adam Garone, about how Movember started and how far it has come. The last day of scan services will thus be Thursday, January 19 to the end of normally scheduled hours. This is a slight extension beyond January 16, which has been the last bookable day on the calendar until now. My understanding is that most researchers have been able to complete all scanning required on the Trio. However, I realize that some groups may still benefit from this small extended access. The calendar should be updated shortly to reflect this. The projected duration of the upgrade is approximately 6 weeks, and we will update when we get a more precise data for resumption of operations. I would like to thank the MRI techs (Ron, Louise, David, Krikor), RAs (Mike & Ilana), and admin staff (Helene, Stacey, Judy) who have done their utmost to make this transition as smooth as possible for the user community (who are also to be thanked for their collaboration in this). The BIC and MNI administration (Sylvain, Zahoor, Fred Pennel) have also been very supportive in dealing with many building-related surprises that have arisen.
