The Neuro Film Series will end the season with "A Matter of Life and Death" on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the Jeanne Timmins Amphitheatre.

A Matter of Life and Death (1946) is a romantic<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romance_film> fantasy film<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantasy_film> created by the British writing-directing-producing team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powell_and_Pressburger>, and stars David Niven<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Niven>, Roger Livesey<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Livesey>, Kim Hunter<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Hunter>, Marius Goring<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marius_Goring> and Raymond Massey<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Massey>.  Set in England during the Second World War<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II>, the film is about a young British airman, who under the earthly pretext of a brain illness, has his life put on trial by a heavenly tribunal. This celestial court is set up to judge the case while the airman, played by David Niven hangs in limbo between a Technicolor earth and a monochrome heaven.

Our host, Diane Broadbent Friedman, a nurse practitioner with a focus on neurological disorders, describes the film as "a complex neurological study of a psychologically normal man who believes that a heavenly tribunal has sentenced him to death." Diane Broadbent Friedman is the author of "A Matter of Life and Death: The Brain Revealed by the Mind of Michael Powell". Diane Broadbent Friedman will lead a discussion, invite comments and answer questions following the films close.

La saison des soirées cinéma du Neuro prend fin avec la présentation du film A Matter of Life and Death (Une question de vie ou de mort) le jeudi 16 mai 2013, à 18 h 30 à l'amphithéâtre Jeanne-Timmins.

A Matter of Life and Death (1946) est une fantaisie romantique du tandem britannique - scénarisation, réalisation, production - de Michael Powell et Emeric Pressburger qui met en vedette David Niven, Roger Livesey, Kim Hunter, Marius Goring et Raymond Massey.  Se déroulant en Angleterre durant la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, le film raconte l'histoire d'un jeune aviateur anglais qui, après avoir trompé la mort, voit un tribunal de l'au-delà statuer sur sa vie, sous le prétexte d'une maladie neurologique. Le statut incertain de l'aviateur, joué par David Niven, fait l'objet d'allers-retours incessants entre le monde des vivants, montré en Technicolor, et un au-delà montré en monochrome.

L'animatrice de la soirée est Diane Broadbent Friedman, une infirmière praticienne qui s'intéresse aux troubles neurologiques. Elle décrit le film comme « une étude neurologique complexe d'un homme psychologiquement normal qui croit avoir été condamné à mourir par un tribunal de l'au-delà ».  Auteure de A Matter of Life and Death: The Brain Revealed by the Mind of Michael Powell, Diane Broadbent Friedman dirigera la discussion qui suivra la présentation du film.
