It is not entirely clear whether these memory impairments are ubiquitous in aging or whether there are conditions under which memory for some types of associations may be spared if not enhanced by the aging process. For example, some behavioral evidence suggests that, compared to the young, older adults may recollect personally-relevant associations to a greater extent than other conceptual or perceptual details about previously episodes. We are only beginning to understand the neural underpinnings of these age-related differences in associative memory performance and the ways in which we might capitalize on the neural processes and brain regions relatively spared by the aging process in order to alleviate older adults' memory deficits. I will discuss findings from behavioral, ERP and fMRI studies conducted in my lab in which we examined the extent to which aging affects the neural systems supporting recollection for different types of associations and related memory performance. -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- M. Miracle on 34th Street will show on Friday, December 10 from 12:15 - 2:00 pm. It's a Wonderful Life will be featured on December 17 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. Miracle on 34th Street 1947 starring Maureen O'Hara , John Payne , Natalie Wood and Edmund Gwenn . It is the story of what takes place in New York City following Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade , as people are left wondering whether or not a department store Santa might be the real thing. It's also about the importance of childhood wonder, trust, and standing up for what you believe. It's A Wonderful Life 1946 is one of the most popular and heartwarming films ever made by director Frank Capra. It's a dark, bittersweet post-war tale of a savings-and-loan manager who struggles against a greedy banker and his own self-doubting nature in a small town. Earnest do-gooder George Bailey (James Stewart) recognizes his life as wonderful and truly rich only after suffering many hardships, mishaps and fateful trials. This film will be shown with French sub-titles. Both films will be shown in the Jeanne Timmins auditorium (3801 University Street). The movies are free and open to all. Snacks may be purchased.
