John Duncan, M.D., MA DM FRCP FMedSci

Professor of Neurology - The Institute of Neurology, UCL

Queen Square, London <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London> , UK

Medical Director - National Society for Epilepsy <http://www.epilepsynse.org.uk/>

Professor Duncan's research focuses on structural and functional brain imaging of epilepsy using MRI and PET.

He is particularly interested in investigating causes and consequences of pharmacoresistant epilepsies, and in their surgical treatment. He also investigates the genetic basis of the epilepsies and the correlation of in vivo imaging data with neuropathology, and brain connectivity.

Professor Duncan is a consummate clinician-scientist and distinguished teacher whose dedication to research has led to important observations and novel views about epilepsy. His work is imaginative and successful in using advanced imaging techniques to provide new insights into the neurobiology of epilepsy. He has published more than 350 papers.

Professor Duncan is also a leading advocate for patients with epilepsy, both in the UK and internationally. The International League Against Epilepsy and the International Bureau for Epilepsy <http://www.ibe-epilepsy.org/> made him an Ambassador for Epilepsy in 2005.
